From uncertainty to clarity, Aya Ahmed’s journey with Remotecoders showcases how structured support, real-world experience, and a growth-focused culture can empower someone with no prior experience to build a strong foundation in tech. Junior at Remotecoders - Zeilenwerk. August 2024.

Background

Meet Aya Ahmed, a recent graduate who began her journey feeling overwhelmed by the breadth of tech fields and unsure where to start. Without prior experience and only a brief one-month internship under her belt, she sought direction, skill-building, and a clearer path to professional growth. That search led her to Remotecoders.

Challenges

Aya faced a common early-career challenge: how to find the right starting point. The lack of a clear roadmap and hands-on learning in her previous internship left her feeling unprepared for the tech industry. She needed more than tasks—she needed mentorship, real projects, and space to grow.

Transformation with Remotecoders

Joining Remotecoders proved to be a turning point. Aya’s experience was built on structure, support, and opportunities that pushed her beyond her comfort zone and into real development work. Key highlights of her journey include:

  • Technical Growth: During the bootcamp, Aya developed a large project from scratch—without AI assistance. The experience gave her a strong technical foundation and confidence in her capabilities. Courses like EPFL’s web development program and Maxmillian’s Udemy course gave her a deeper technical edge.
  • Real-World Projects: Her project with Zeilenwerk was more than a learning exercise—it was hands-on, professional experience that brought theory into action.
  • Skill Development: Aya leveled up in web development, Agile planning, and problem-solving—critical skills for a successful tech career.
  • Soft Skills & Confidence: Through programs like Yalla English and team interaction with international clients, Aya’s communication skills blossomed. Her confidence in English improved, and so did her planning and presentation abilities.

Remotecoders focuses on what I am learning and how I am improving, unlike other organizations that focus solely on getting the work done.

Aya describes the environment at Remotecoders as healthy, inclusive, and empowering. She appreciated the program’s focus on learning and the wealth of resources available to help interns grow. Collaboration, feedback, and mentorship were central to her positive experience.

Current Impact

Today, Aya has gained clarity on her path and confidence in her skills. She understands which technologies excite her, how she wants to contribute in her career, and what kind of professional she aspires to become. She’s also developed planning, communication, and critical thinking skills that will serve her for years to come.

Advice for Future Interns

Aya offers this heartfelt advice to those entering the program:

Make use of every moment you spend here and invest in yourself. Plan for the months you’ll be here and never waste that valuable time—it’s an opportunity you won’t find anywhere else.
