WHAT IS REMOTECODERS?

Remotecoders is a social spin-off of Powercoders, a coding academy, and an IT job integration program originally from Switzerland. Together with the Swiss government and several foundations, Remotecoders is determined to offer IT talents from vulnerable groups in North Africa and the Middle East remote job opportunities with European and international IT companies.

HOW WAS REMOTECODERS STARTED?

There are a lot of highly qualified and vulnerable people in the MENA Region. They are either refugees and migrants who are struggling to secure a stable financial income or unemployed youths who are also struggling after finishing their studies due to the lack of opportunities. Both categories are under a lot of pressure and many of them decide to take the dangerous journey to migrate to another country.


The two founders has experience with integrating vulnerable people in IT in Switzerland with Powercoders for the last five years and they always had the motivation and passion to open the doors also for vulnerable people outside of Switzerland.

WHAT IMPACT REMOTECODERS IS TRYING TO CREATE?

There is a massive lack for IT professionals and at the same time, there are a lot of highly qualified vulnerable people in the MENA Region who are desperately looking for opportunities. Remote job opportunities for vulnerable people in the MENA with IT companies in Europe are our solution. It fills the gap and allows people to stay with their families and close to their culture.

HOW DOES REMOTECODERS WORK?

Remotecoders is a job integration program and works with local partners in the MENA Region who will be the Talent Acquisition Partners with selecting and training candidates. Remotecoders receive these people, evaluate them and allow them to attend Career Days to meet companies.


Companies only commit to attending virtual Career Days (max 3 hours) to meet the candidates and then invite their top candidates for interviews (if there are any) and decide if and to whom they want to offer opportunities.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

To make this impactful program work, we always need:

  1. motivated and committed companies to offer internships to our participants. Check companies page.

  2. volunteers who can accompany our participants during their internships. Check volunteers page.

  3. motivated talents from the MENA Region who are looking for opportunities and eager to seize them. Check talents page.

 

FOR COMPANIES

HOW CAN A COMPANY GET INVOLVED WITH REMOTECODERS?

If you are an IT company or have an IT department and you have a remote team, you can give it a try​ in a very simple process: 

  • Sign up (3 minutes) to attend a virtual Career Day (speed interviews setup)

  • Attend our two-hours virtual Career Day to meet our talents and pick your top candidates.

  • Invite your top candidates for interviews

  • Decide if and to whom you would like to offer internships/training

WHAT LEVEL IS REMOTECODERS PARTICIPANTS?

Our talents are graduates from universities or coding schools and have different levels but they all are open to seizing the opportunity you bring. You will have the full freedom to virtually meet, interview, assess, and select the ones you want. No obligation to hire anyone if there is no fit.

HOW MUCH DOES THE INTERNSHIP/TRAINING COST?

The salary for the internship/short term employment is CHF/USD 600 -
1’000/month depending on if you hire directly or through a local partner including costs for infrastructure.

WHAT SHOULD A COMPANY BE AWARE OF TO MAKE THE INTERNSHIP/TRAINING A SUCCESS?

We are determined to provide the best candidates for
you. On the other hand, we know that you play a crucial
role to make this a success. Here are the success factors:

  • Offering a remote opportunity to a vulnerable person as a team/organization and open to living through the cultural exchange.

  • Enough human resources to provide an internal person in charge especially in the beginning.

  • Financial resources of average CHF/USD 10’000 including salary and infrastructure.

  • Willingness to evaluate a follow-up solution (eg. a junior or senior position).

HOW CAN WE RECRUITE REMOTECODERS TALENTS?

After confirming the internship position for a talent, a company can choose one of the following models and Remotecoders will recommend the best one for each case.


Model 1: Direct Hiring

  • If a company has a branch in the same country the talent lives in, hire the talent directly 

  • If a company doesn’t have a branch in the same country the talent lives in, hire directly through a moral binding contract


Model 2: Hire through a local company 

Remotecoders has local partners that can provide companies the payroll service. These local partners play a mediator role between the company and the intern. There will be an agreement signed between engaged parties. 


Model 3: Hire as a contractor

The talent starts a personal company and work as a contractor for the internship provider company. In this model, the talent has a legal entity in the country.

 

FOR TALENTS

HOW CAN I APPLY?

You can apply through our talent acquisition partners in your country. On the talents page, you can check the talent acquisition partners and reach out to them.

WHAT INTERNSHIPS ARE OFFERED BY COMPANIES?

Our partners offer internships in IT in general. You should be open to seizing an opportunity to kick off your career life even if it includes learning new things.

WHAT ARE THE GENERAL REQUIREMENTS?

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Must have a legal status that allows a work permit for remote work

  • Wants and can work remotely (reliable connection, quite workplace)

  • Must be fluent in English (CEFR C1 level, use an online level estimation test)

  • Must be available for a full-time 6- to 12-months internship

  • Open and willing to seize opportunities outside their specialization to enter the IT job market.

WHAT ARE THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS?

Must fulfill at least one of the following conditions:

  • Successfully completed a Full-Stack Web Development course at a renowned school

  • Diploma / Bachelor’s and/or Master's Degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering OR comparable tertiary education
